Looking for a budget-friendly way to achieve the timeless Shaker wall panel look? Our value wall panelling kits offer an easy and affordable solution for adding classic character to bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, and more. Designed with both DIY beginners and professional installers in mind, these packs make upgrading your walls simple and cost-effective.
Our multipacks are available in a range of thicknesses (6mm, 9mm, and 12mm), widths (50mm, 75mm, and 100mm), and strip lengths (1220mm, 2440mm, or 2950mm), giving you flexibility to suit any project. While they’re competitively priced, we only use premium-grade Standard MDF to ensure a smooth surface that requires minimal sanding between coats — helping you achieve a flawless painted finish with less effort.
Before getting started, consider the thickness and width of your strips, the overall panel height, and how many panel sections (openings) you want. Strip thickness should not exceed the depth of your skirting board’s top edge for a clean, seamless look. Width is largely personal preference — 100mm is a popular choice, while 50mm or 75mm can suit smaller spaces better.
In terms of height, low-level panelling typically reaches around 1000mm (about two-fifths of the wall), mid-height around 2000mm (four-fifths), and full-height extends floor to ceiling. You may also want to align the top of your panels with features such as window sills or door frames for a balanced finish. Sketching your design directly onto the wall with pencil and tape measure is a great way to visualise the layout before cutting.
To determine how many vertical sections (openings) you need, divide the wall width by your preferred panel spacing (commonly around 600mm). Once you know how many openings you want, factor in the width of your vertical strips (uprights), subtract their combined width from the total wall measurement, and divide the remaining space evenly between the openings. This will give you consistent panel widths and balanced proportions.
For height calculations, panel openings should generally be taller than they are wide to create an elegant, natural look and enhance the feeling of room height. After deciding your overall panel height, subtract the combined height of all horizontal rails and any dado rail you plan to use. Divide the remaining space by the number of panel rows to determine the height of each opening. Cutting a few spacer blocks to this measurement will make installation quicker and more accurate.
